A playoff game between two Minnesota high school hockey teams ended in a huge brawl.
On Saturday in Minnesota, Eden Prairie and Benilde-St. Margaret high schools faced off against each other in a Class 2A, section 2 playoff game. The game ended with a 1-0 Eden Prairie victory and 18 penalty minutes.
As the game was winding down, players from both teams converged in the corner of the ice in the Eden Prairie zone. Tensions boiled to the surface as the two teams broke out in a full line brawl. Some players even came off the bench to either get involved in the fight or to help break it up.
The officials stopped the game with 0.6 seconds left to play and handed out 18 penalty minutes. Unfortunately for Eden Prairie, three players were ejected from the game and, therefore, disqualified for their team’s section championship on Wednesday against Minnetonka. Eden Prairie will be forced to dress just 17 players as a result.

Eden Prairie head coach Lee Smith knows that it will be a significant adjustment with losing three players.
"This changes everything. We have to change our line combinations, we’ve got to shuffle our power play, we’ve got to shuffle our penalty kill."
Benilde-St. Margaret head coach Ken Pauly was disappointed to see the game end like that, but understands the frustration of his team.
"No one likes to see it end that way. I think there’s a lot of respect between the two programs, but let’s face it, you get a lot of angst out there. They’re disappointed, it’s a high-energy thing, it’s a charged environment."
Hockey is a very physical and emotional game. Sometimes it’s hard to keep your emotions in check and you let your frustrations get the better of you, especially when its high school kids. They’re competitive, they want to win, and a lot of times younger kids don’t possess the maturity yet to not let their emotions get the better of them.
Good to see that no one was significantly hurt either. May have a couple enforcers getting ready for the NHL here.
