The Los Angeles Clippers and Jordan Hamilton agreed on a 10-day contract on Tuesday.

Jordan Hamilton of the Reno Bighorns has agreed to a 10-day contract with the Los Angeles Clippers, according to Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski.

The 6’7”, 220 pound small forward has been tearing up the NBA D-League this season, averaging 16.8 points, 7.4 rebounds and 3.5 assists for Reno.

Hamilton, just 24-years-old, was drafted 26th overall by the Denver Nuggets in the 2011 NBA draft after two very solid seasons at Texas under Rick Barnes. He went to Texas from Compton, CA as the 22nd ranked recruit in America.

He left Texas as a 1,000-plus point scorer, averaging 14.5 points in his two seasons in Austin.

Despite the solid resume, and first-round selection, Hamilton did not see game action until January of his rookie season in Denver. At that time, though, he appeared to be growing into his game, and looked like a nice piece for a Denver team with a lot of interchangeable parts.

He started just three games over his first two seasons in Denver, and played in just 66. But in 2013-14, he seemed to be making some headway, playing in 39 games and starting in 11, but then was traded midway through last season to the Houston Rockets.

He played a bench role once again in Houston, but continued, as in Denver, to be a solid three-point shooter. For his career he is shooting .358 percent from deep. Per-36 minutes he is averaging 15.6 points per game, but is yet to gain the kind of minutes necessary to be a sparkling scorer.

His D-League play proves Hamilton can be a solid scorer, and that along with a need for depth is likely the reason the Clippers decided to add Hamilton. They are greatly in need of depth at the small forward spot, with only Matt Barnes currently a consistent contributor at the position.

The Clippers will be able to play a few more conventional lineups with Hamilton, though in reality Hamilton is still more of a shooting guard in terms of style. If he can bring his D-League rebounding numbers to Los Angeles, he will again be a solid bench option for a team looking to make hay in the crowded Western Conference.

It is a 10-day contract, which means Hamilton must come in and prove immediately that he can contribute for Doc Rivers’ team, or he may end up back in the D-League. His past performances, however, show he is capable of helping the Clippers.
