Former Kentucky Wildcats player Daniel Orton insulted Manny Pacquiao and was kicked out of Philippine basketball league.

If you insult Filipino legend Manny Pacquiao, you’re pretty much going to feel God’s wrath. That’s what former Kentucky player and 2010 first round draft pick Daniel Orton felt after he insulted the boxer and was consequently kicked out of the Philippine Basketball Association league.

Daniel Orton played against Manny Pacquiao last week in the local pro-league, a game in which the 5 foot-6 inch boxing champion scoredĀ just one point.

ā€œProfessional boxer, yeah, okay… professional basketball player, no. It’s a joke,ā€ Orton, who signed with the Purefoods Hotshots (what??), said according to Yahoo Sports.

After his ā€œoffensiveā€ comments about the boxing superstar who has a coaching-playing role for the Kia Carnival basketball team, Orton was released by his team and the league who apparently don’t allow free speech against Pacquiao.

He posted a farewell on Twitter yesterday.

The Purefood’s Hotshots top administrator, Rene Pardo, was quoted in local media saying that the entire country is pretty furious about Orton’s comments.

ā€œEveryone is angry at him… it is like he went to the United States and insulted the name of Martin Luther King,ā€ Pardo said according to the ABS-CBN news website.

As if releasing the struggling basketball player wasn’t enough, the Philippine Basketball Association also fined Orton 250,000 pesos ($5,650) for his comments against Manny Pacquiao.

ā€œThis office disapproves of and frowns upon the cavalier manner in which Mr Orton issued his comments and the unwarranted antics and liberties he has taken with the league and a fellow player,ā€ PBA commissioner Chito Salud said in a statement. ā€œThis insulting behaviour will never be condoned by this league.ā€

I guess what we’ve learned is that as long as you are on Philippines soil, do NOT under any circumstances saying anything offensive about their crown jewel, Pacquiao.

Manny Pacquiao is set to fight boxing champion Floyd Mayweather on May 2 in one of the most anticipated fights of all time.
