Brandon Knight was too pricey for Milwaukee Bucks

The Bucks and Brandon Knight failed to come to an agreement on an extension in the offseason, and that may have been the catalyst behind Milwaukee trading him to Phoenix.

When the Milwaukee Bucks, Philadelphia 76ers and Phoenix Suns executed a trade last week at the deadline, many were blown away and shocked but what had just gone down. It was a trade deadline to remember as 9% of the NBA was traded to new places.

More from Milwaukee Bucks

One of those players traded away, was Brandon Knight. Knight, thanks in part to his improved play, was a borderline All-Star in the Eastern Conference this year.

Knight was one of the key players for the Bucks this year as they have a winning record of 31-25 and are primed to enter the playoffs.

That was one of the many reasons people were shocked when Milwaukee sent Knight to Phoenix in a deal that landed them Michael Carter-Williams from Philadelphia.

Knight will be a restricted free agent in the off-season and the fact they couldn’t come to an agreement on an extension last off-season might be the big reason Milwaukee traded Knight to Phoenix.

Phoenix shipped out Goran Dragic, and was in need of another guard to play alongside Eric Bledsoe. Many consider Knight, a better off-ball guard, a better fit in the desert.

With Carter-Williams, the Bucks have him under control through 2017 and can add him to their core of young players alongside Jabari Parker and Giannis Antetokounmpo.

With Knight expected to command close to a max contract in the off-season, perhaps the Bucks felt it was time to cash in on Knight and get a player they can control longer before having to make big financial decisions.
