The Baltimore Ravens have decided to part ways with wide receiver and returner Jacoby Jones

There is another high-profile free agent set to hit the open market in March, as the Baltimore Ravens announced on Wednesday that they have decided to part ways with wide receiver and kick returner Jacoby Jones.

In a brief statement, head coach John Harbaugh noted what a pleasure it was to have Jones on the squad and he thanked him for his time in Baltimore.

“We thank Jacoby for what he did for us,” Head Coach John Harbaugh said. “He was invaluable to our success. Opponents, especially on special teams, schemed to stop him. What a compliment to him.”

Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome also weighed in, noting that releasing him was in his best interests going forward.

“We think he can still play in the NFL, and releasing him now allows him a better opportunity to land with another team,” Newsome said.

Jones was entering the second year of a three-year deal with the team and he was carrying a cap hit of $3.3 million, a cap hit that the Ravens are now rid of and they may now look to fill the void in the draft.

Entering the league in 2007 with the Houston Texans, Jones moved on to Baltimore in time for the 2012 season to get underway.

He saw action in all 16 games last season, however he did not start one of those contests. He finished the year with just nine receptions for 131 yards with no touchdowns, making him more than expendable and allowing the Ravens to make the easy decision in cutting him.
