The Dallas Mavericks have suspended point guard Rajon Rondo one game for conduct detrimental to the team.

Rajon Rondo has been suspended by the Mavericks one day after the former All-Star point guard was benched after getting in a profanity-laced tirade with head coach Rick Carlisle, according to ESPN’s Marc Stein.

With Carlisle coming on the court to call a time out midway through the third quarter in Tuesday’s win over the Toronto Raptors he was seen shouting at Rondo who was ignoring his play call from the bench.

Rondo responded by shouting back at his head coach and things got so heated that assistant coach Jamahl Mosley had to step in front of Rondo from things escalating even further.

“Well, it’s an emotional game, and we had a difference of opinion,” Carlisle said, via ESPN.com. “There was an exchange, and then in my mind, it was over.”

Rondo reportedly cooled off after sitting for the rest of the game and spoke with his former coach at Kentucky, Tubby Smith, in the locker room after the game, but didn’t address the situation with he and Carlisle. “Discuss with Rick,” said Rondo.

According to ESPNDallas.com, this is something that has been building behind the scenes for some time since the Mavericks made the blockbuster trade with the Celtics to acquire Rondo who is not happy with his coaches play-calling.

In 25 games with the Mavericks, Rondo is averaging nine points, 6.2 assists, 4.5 rebounds, 1.3 steals per game. He is shooting 40.8 percent from the field and is an abysmal 7-25 from the free throw line.

He is scheduled to be a free agent at the end of the season and with the honeymoon period clearly over in Dallas, Rondo looks like he’ll definitely be testing the market and signing elsewhere.
