Ichiro apparently is pretty happy that he’s no longer with the Yankees, in particular he’s glad to be away from manager Joe Girardi
Ichiro Suzuki is getting set to begin his first year with the Miami Marlins here in 2015 and he seems to be pretty pleased with his new home. Actually, he might just be happy to be away from the New York Yankees. No, wait, he’s really happy to be away from his old manager, Joe Girardi.
Yes, while you rarely ever hear a player complain about Girardi in any way, shape or form, it seems as if Ichiro was not much a fan of his Yankees boss during his time with the team recently.
In a piece for the New York Post, Kevin Kernan noted that Ichiro is glad he doesn’t have to play for the World Series-winning manager any longer.
"A smiling Ichiro went through his first official workout with Miami on Tuesday. He is thrilled to be a Marlin, and although Ichiro will not say it, for he is much too polite and professional, he is happy to be away from Joe Girardi as his manager."
Now given the fact that the Yankees acquired Ichiro during the tail end of his career, he wasn’t used with the team as often as he was in the past with the Seattle Mariners, the team that he began his historic Major League career with. However, again, he’s now at the back end of his career, which means that his time on the field is going to drop off a bit.
Nonetheless, this was obviously something that he was less than pleased with while playing for Girardi and life is better for him not that he’s out of the Bronx and in South Beach.
