RTOE: On Kevin Garnett, LeBron James Jr., and karaoke

For the second time this week, we sat down at the roundtable to talk about some things.

Alonzo Gee said he wanted to be a ninja when he was a kid. What did you want to be?

Eric (@EricBuenning):

Two things: A Pokemon Master or the guy in CSI that runs all the cool lab stuff. Also, a writer for Friendly Bounce!!

Chris (@ChrisBarnewall):

An NBA player, or a pokemon master. Both dreams were shattered in middle school when I realized I had asthma, and that my parents weren’t going to buy me the next pokemon game. I’ll play you one day Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum…one day.

Zach (@ZachOliverNBA):

I wanted to be an NBA player. I was like the neighborhood version of Duke J.J. Redick. I shot the ball, and I didn’t play defense. I still shoot the ball and play only slight more defense, so, maybe I’m just a shorter version of Redick?

Wes (@wcgoldberg):

I think I wanted to go on a Pokemon adventure with Eric and Chris.

Ian (@IanDougherty):

I wanted to be either an NBA player or a NASCAR driver. I have no idea how I ended up here.

Jack (@jackhaveitall):

NBA player, MLB player, professional golfer, whatever. I was pretty sure I was going to the pros in something until like freshman year of high school, haha.

What’s your favorite thing about KG being back in Minnesota?

Eric:

The effect it will have on Ricky Rubio and Andrew Wiggins.

Chris:

I’m writing about this somewhere else so I abstain from this question. (How’s that for a teaser huh?)

Zach:

The nostalgia. I know, it’s a cop out, but, KG, to me, will always be synonymous with Minnesota, and it just feels right he’s finishing his career there.

Wes:

KG taught me what was possible on a basketball court. A big guy who could move and score, no less defend, the way he did? What more could a young kid who fancied himself a power forward on the playground want? Timerwolves KG was my favorite player growing up and to see him back in that uniform will be an awesome way to come full circle.

Ian:

I just want to hear stories about how he terrorizes/mentors young players like Andrew Wiggins and Zach LaVine. Maybe he can rub off some of that intense attitude on them. Not too much though. You don’t want them to go around trying to bite people.

Jack:

Pretty much everything. I love KG, and him being back in Minnesota just feels right. I’m so glad we don’t have to see him in that Nets jersey anymore. That was so weird.

Thoughts on LeBron Jr.’s performance?

Eric:

Seems to have a solid assist-to-turnover ratio.

Chris:

He’s clearly the next Michael Jordan.

Zach:

Where did you find clips of me playing as a kid?

Wes:

Is he related to LeBron Sr.?

Ian:

He’s his father’s son. Just look at that court vision! I wish I could have gotten him to play for my intramural squad.

Jack:

*AIR HORNS* MORE FIRE. Yo, that little in-and-out move to the behind-the-back crossover he puts on the kid at the 55 second mark is so sick. LBJ Jr. has tremendous upside potential.

Bruno Cabocalo, the young Brazilian Raptor is down in the D-League with the Fort Wayne Mad Ants right now, and just dropped an Instagram video of his karaoke skills. Are you better than Bruno? Also, what song would you sing?

https://instagram.com/p/zgC0GFmPQM/

Eric:

Not even going to watch this video and I know I’m worse.

Chris:

I’m worse, far worse. And I will sing My Hero by Foo Fighters.

Zach:

I could take him, easily. I have a good voice, and I would totally do some karaoke. My song of choice would probably be like Talladega by Eric Church.

Wes:

I feel like this question is too black and white. How much have I had to drink? I think my stage presence and blood-alcohol level have a direct relationship. Let me get my fill of Crown Royal and I’ll beat Bruno Glee style to Alanis Morissette’s “You Ought To Know.”

Ian:

Let me get in my zone singing Omarion’s “Ice Box”. Bruno wouldn’t stand a chance.

Jack:

I’ve never actually done karaoke? Unless singing/rapping to yourself like 24/7 counts, because then I do karaoke every day. I don’t have much of a stage presence, but I think I could at least match Bruno’s effort here. Also I would go with Blank Space by Taylor Swift.
