Former Louisville guard Chris Jones has had some harsh legal charges brought against him, including rape and sodomy

On Sunday it was announced that Louisville Cardinals guard Chris Jones, who had previously been serving a suspension for a violation of team rules, was dismissed from the basketball program. To be dismissed from one of Rick Pitino’s teams it needs to be for something serious, and in Jones’ case, this situation is about as serious as you can get.

According to a report from the Louisville Courier-Journal, Jones has been formally charged with rape and sodomy, with the warrant recently being issued for his arrest.

In the report it states that it was two women that were victimized, both of whom were immediately able to identify the 23-year-old former Louisville star, who at the time of his departure was the third leading scorer on the team. The incident reportedly happened on Saturday night.

Following the departure of Jones from the team on Sunday, Coach Pitino would decline to comment any further on the matter other than the fact that Jones was no longer with the program.

“He’s finished,” Louisville coach Rick Pitino said on Sunday. “There won’t be any comment.”

There’s also a separate incident involved in all of this where Jones sent threatening text messages to another female who “messed up his room.”

Again, Rick Pitino is sometimes the king of giving some of his players leeway, but in this case there was no other option than to boot him from the program.
