Watch out ‘Alien’ fans. Ellen Ripley is going to be back in the upcoming installment of the franchise.
Neil Blomkamp recently announced his plans to go forward with Fox’s new addition to the Alien franchise with a very hopeful instagram shown here.
That’s not all, though. Word has it from SlashFilm that Sigourney Weaver is also attached to the project to reprise her legendary role as Ellen Ripley. Not much has been said yet about what the movie will be about, but if the concept art tells us anything about it, audiences will be able to see an older, more battle weary Ripley ready to take on more cosmic forces.
The website has also confirmed that Blomkamp’s version of the film will pretty much blow off the story arc from Alien 3 as well as Alien: Resurrection. He plans to set the film after Aliens.
Check out their interview with MTV below where they only discuss the project in a cursory matter. Though they don’t outright and say the project is on, it was later confirmed.
Blomkamp should be familiar to anyone who saw the critically acclaimed District 9, as well as the visually impressive Elysium most recently. His work has proven itself to be original and fresh, so fans should have no worries about leaving the franchise in his hands.

He recently had a chance to speak with Entertainment Weekly wherein he discussed the project at length and talking to Weaver about it.
From EW:
"“Over the years, I came up with a story for a film in that universe that I wanted to make. And then when I talked to her about her experience making those films and what she thought about Ripley and everything else, it informed and changed the film I wanted to make into something different. It just sort of stuck with me.A year later, when post-production was winding down on ‘Chappie,’ I started fleshing out the idea for a film that would contain Sigourney. Fox never knew. I just worked on it when I could. Before I knew it, I had this really awesome film with a lot of artwork and a lot of backstory. And then I didn’t know whether I was going to make it or not. So I just kind of sat on it for a while.”"
As for Sigourney Weaver, need we say anything more about her? She’s perfect. Absolutely perfect.
