Report: Panthers have interest in reunion with Ted Ginn Jr.
By Ryan Ratty
The Carolina Panthers have interest in a reunion with Ted Ginn Jr.
Considering that Ted Ginn Jr enjoyed the best season of his career in 2013 with the Carolina Panthers, it’s no surprise that they are interested in Ginn Jr. Less than a week ago, Ginn Jr was cut by the Arizona Cardinals. He was brought in before the season to play a huge role in their offense. Bruce Arians’ vertical offense was destined to be the perfect fit for Ginn Jr, but because of rookie John Brown, who basically turned out to be a better version of Ginn Jr, the Cardinals really had no use for him on their team and he would go on to be a cap casualty.

Pro Football Talk reported that the Panthers are interested in a reunion with Ginn Jr. Three of Cam Newton’s top weapons from 2013 all were not on the team in 2014. Brandon LaFell signed with the New England Patriots in free agency, Steve Smith was released by the Panthers, and Ginn Jr. signed with the Cardinals. In 2014, Cam’s top weapons were rookie Kelvin Benjamin and tight end Greg Olsen.
That being said, the Panthers are in need of more talent at their skill positions and bringing in Ginn Jr to their spread offense would make a ton of sense.
It was reported yesterday that the Cleveland Browns have a lot of interest in Ginn Jr. as well. Considering Ginn Jr is from the Cleveland area and he went to Ohio State, signing with the Browns would be a good way to end his career. However, given their putrid offense and their incompetent quarterback play, for Ginn Jr to revive is career, he will need to go to a solid offense. All in all, the Panthers would give him the best chance to succeed and after a 2013 season where caught 36 passes for 556 yards and five touchdowns, it’s clear that there clearly was good connection between him and Newton.
