Duke Blue Devils to wear all-white uniforms Saturday vs Syracuse (Photo)

The Duke Blue Devils will wear all-white uniforms Saturday at home against ACC rival Syracuse.
Duke Blue Devils basketball is an institution of sorts. With Coach K the most long-term success of any coach in this generation (only Saturday’s competitor Jim Boeheim is even close in terms of success at one school over a long period of time), Duke basketball is all about tradition.
The Blue Devils nickname is really just that…a nickname. No matter how fancy Nike gets with their uniforms, “Duke” will never leave the front of the university’s men’s basketball jersey.
But colors and styling have long been up for grabs even for the tradition-laced Duke basketball program. On Wednesday night in Blacksburg against Virginia Tech, the Blue Devils wore a black ensemble with blue trim, similar to the ones they have worn for the past 20 years or so.
But the Duke uniforms, like Kansas’, have mostly gone back to tradition this season. The uniform has been simplified making for a clean look. Piping, stitching and the like has been minimized. Just a double blue stripe around the edges of the tank top style home jerseys has made for a classic Duke home jersey in 2014-15.
That will change Saturday, as Nike designed a Duke uniform, which for the first time will be “all-white.” “Duke” will be laced in white with a blue tracing. The numbers on the front, though, will be a form of royal blue.
And as you can see from the tweet, there will be no striping whatsoever. It’s not the most egregious look every designed by Nike for college basketball, not even for Duke. It’s an overall clean look which should be appreciated.
