Fantasy Impact: Reggie Bush Cut By Lions

facebooktwitterreddit

Reggie Bush was cut by the Lions, and this causes a few subtle changes in some player’s values. Bush played 2 seasons with the Detroit Lions where he accumulated 1,303 yards and 6 TDs, and caught 94 receptions for 759 yards and 3 TDs during his time span with the Lions. Bush is approaching the dreaded age of 30, and was cut due to his cap situation. By cutting Bush this helps the Lions create cap space for Ndamukong Suh.

Reggie Bush

Bush is going to hit the open market, where he is more than likely going to land with a team as part of a committee. Bush could still have fantasy value if he can land with a team that will use him a lot in the passing game. Bush is a free agent that you will have to keep an eye on because if he lands in a good situation he could be a savvy draft pick in redraft leagues next year. Bush didn’t have much dynasty value before he got cut, so right now I would just hold on to him until we know what situation he is going to be a part of. If he goes to a good situation, I would package him up for a higher draft pick as soon as I could since he’s going to be 30 years old and he’s facing the last leg of his career.

Joique Bell

Bell’s value is going to increase a little bit because there is a good chance that he his work load will increase for next year, which will lead to more fantasy points. Bell has been very good with the Lions for the last couple years, and I see him getting the majority of the carries next season. Bell will be a trendy mid round draft pick in re-draft leagues next season. In dynasty, Bell might be a sell because there is a good chance that Detroit is going to bring in another running back either through the draft of free agency and this could lead to his value decreasing down the road. Packaging him up to get in the first round of your rookie draft will be a very smart move for your dynasty team.

Theo Riddick

Riddick’s fantasy value increased with Bush being cut, which is going to cause a lot of fantasy owners to burn draft picks on him hoping to get RB2 value in PPR leagues with a late draft pick. Riddick is great in the passing game and merits being drafted in redraft leagues next year due to his ability to catch the ball. In dynasty leagues, I would sell Riddick as fast as I could because he does not possess elite athleticism and I don’t believe he will maintain fantasy relevancy. Packaging him up to get into the first round is something I would try to do immediately because if Detroit brings in another running back in free agency, Riddick’s stock will drop instantly. If Detroit doesn’t draft a running back there is a good chance that they draft one this year, so you might as well sell now while you can get something out of Riddick rather than be left holding the bag on him next year.

I look for Detroit to draft a running back in the draft this year, and it’s going to impact the depth chart sooner than later. I feel this is going to leave Riddick on the outside looking in and could possibly hurt Bell’s fantasy value in the future. Detroit’s future running back is not on the team right now, and I feel that their new running back will be more than likely acquired through the draft rather than free agency. Look for the running back situation for the Lions to shake up even more.
