Cleveland Cavaliers All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving left Thursday nights win over the Golden State Warriors with an injured left shoulder and there is more to the story than initially thought. The Cleveland Cavaliers allowed Irving to return to the game, but it appears the shoulder injury could be more serious than it seemed at the time, as an MRI is being taken to determine how serious the damage is.
It isn’t that this specific injury is of the serious variety, it’s that the repetitive damage to Kyrie Irving’s left shoulder has the Cavaliers worried that so many nicks and scraps on the shoulder could add up to one serious problem moving forward.
According to a report from ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, the Cleveland Cavaliers are concerned about the injured shoulder of Kyrie Irving as it’s not the first time it has been banged up int he recent past.
We’ve seen that with the Chicago Bulls most recently, as losing Derrick Rose — under largely different circumstances — has effected the team greatly. Irving is not traveling with the team to Indiana for tonight’s game and is doubtful for the matchup which is hardly surprising.
What the Cavaliers need to do is ensure that their entire roster stays as healthy as possible through this final stretch of the season as just one injury could derail everything. But the Cavaliers are playing it safe with Kyrie Irving, and even if the MRI comes back negative, it might be a good idea for ht team to sit their point guard down and not risk him as he continues to get healthy for the postseason.
Cleveland wants to have Kyrie Irving healthy now, but they need him in the postseason and that’s something this shoulder injury could prevent if not handled properly.
