Melvin Gordon believes the Dallas Cowboys should re-sign DeMarco Murray.

With their cap problems this NFL offseason, the Dallas Cowboys may have to make a decision on whether to keep DeMarco Murray or Dez Bryant. In 2014, both players had career seasons and both players were monumental to this team’s success. Behind the best offensive line in football, Murray ran the football 392 times for 1,845 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns. However, his injury history and the fact that he was used to the ground in 2014 is concerning and because of that, many professional NFL Draft experts have had the Cowboys picking stud running back Melvin Gordon out of Wisconsin. However, Gordon has said something that does raise some eyebrows.

According to the Dallas News, Gordon said that the Cowboys should keep Murray. Aware of the contract situation between Murray and Bryant, Gordon commented on the Cowboys and their position this offseason.

"“They’re still trying to figure out what they’re going to do,” Gordon said by phone Thursday. “If I were them, I would try to keep DeMarco Murray. He’s a phenomenal player. But that’s a tough decision because Dez (Bryant) is great, too. If they could find a way to keep both of them, that would be great.”"

To be clear, this is impressive from Gordon. In his latest mock draft, Todd McShay had the Cowboys selecting Gordon with the 27th pick. Given their offensive line and an already-talented defense, Gordon could have immediate success in Dallas. However, despite the rumors of the Cowboys’ interest in Gordon, it truly shows his character that rather than vouching himself to the Cowboys, he talked about Murray and how he’s a great player and how the Cowboys would be wise to bring him back.

Even if the Cowboys do not re-sign Murray and he goes elsewhere in free agency, selecting Gordon may not be an option. The Wisconsin product is one of the most talented players in this draft and he would be a dynamic player on many offenses in this league. Regardless, whoever plays behind Dallas’ offensive line in 2015 will have a ton of success.
