Second City releases Amy Poehler’s failed ’90s TV pilot
By Tony Tran
The legendary improv comedy school has released 20-year-old footage of a young Amy Poehler starring in a failed TV pilot.
Second City has been the training ground for so many of our beloved comedians. From Chris Farley to Steve Carrell, the Chicago-based improv school has been the site where hundreds of young up-and-coming entertainers have cut their teeth. And, as a recent video of Amy Poehler reveals, where they also produced some bizarre television pilots.

The video features a much younger Poehler, back before she blew up on Saturday Night Live. Rocking a classic ’90s haircut that would probably make her cringe now, the video is a pilot about a group of “hackers working out of an RV,” according to The A.V. Club.
From the site:
"Written by Tom Gianas and Adam McKay, RVTV stars Poehler, Matt Dwyer, and improv legend Del Close as computer whizzes who spend their days hacking into the NRA supercomputer, masturbating to Janet Reno, and threatening to “digitize” their viewers in order to interrupt Dan Rather."
According to sources, the failed pilot was shot in Toronto in 1995, and though it features some established comedians who we know are indeed funny (Poehler as well as Del Close), we still aren’t sure if it’s truly funny for the right reasons.
Check out the video below.
This comes at the heels of Second City releasing old footage of Chris Farley fine tuning an early version of his legendary “Matt Foley: Motivational Speak” sketch. Though he didn’t need to do any fine tuning, as evidenced by the audience’s raucous laughter in the video.
Interesting fact about that sketch, the video features two names that we might come to be familiar with now: Bob Odenkirk of Better Call Saul fame and Tim “The Ladies Man” Meadows. Pretty cool. Check that out here.
