The original charcoal company burned the NCAA with their latest bag
When talking about the famous Ed O’Bannon lawsuit against the NCAA over the use of a player’s likeness, Kingsford Charcoal probably isn’t the company people would expect to make a statement on the issue.

Not only has Kingsford Charcoal made a statement about players not being paid for the use of their likeness, they’ve begun branding it on their bags of charcoal briquettes.
It’s not too often an endorsement will target the NCAA or any other athletic associations, but that didn’t stop Kingsford from putting the likeness of Ed O’Bannon on their bag.
Not only is the likeness of Ed O’Bannon on the bag, so is a hashtag that simply says, “Pay Ed.”
There is also a clever quip in bold lettering that reads,”Light 25% faster. Doesn’t burn athletes.”

It’s a bold statement from Kingsford, especially to target the NCAA for not paying players for the use of their likeness.

With March Madness around the corner, Kingsford’s marketing attempt makes sense and the fact they are making such a bold statement will surely catch the eye of many.
Any chances of a future sponsorship with the NCAA might have just went up in flames quicker than a charcoal briquette.
