On Tuesday night, Dallas Mavericks point guard Rajon Rondo and his head coach Rick Carlisle got into a heated argument but the incident is now being downplayed.

When Dallas Mavericks point guard, Rajon Rondo, and Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle got into a major blowup on the court recently, it was a huge deal. Not because the player involved is a free agent at the end of the season and the incident could backfire on everyone, but because it was a star and his head coach fighting in the middle of a game.

The incident in question occurred when Carlisle tried to get Rondo to call a timeout but was blatantly ignored in the process. Carlise then called a timeout, and made sure he voiced his opinion to Rondo. The aftermath of Rondo’s decision was a one game suspension.

In an interview with Tim MacMahon of ESPNDallas.com, Mavericks point guard Rondo tried to downplay the entire incident:

"“Everything is back to normal now…I just got built-up frustration….I take a lot of the blame for what I’ve been doing on the court, but just a little frustrated. The most important thing is communication with Coach. I’ve talked to a lot of the coaches, I’ve talked to a lot of staff members. I’m going to do what’s best for the team and play my heart out for these next 22, 23 games that we have left and make a run in the playoffs…I think we have a great chance to win a championship. That’s my main focus. I’m going to continue to work to get better and do what’s best to lead this team.”"

Rondo who is set to become a free agent this summer, could leave the Mavericks high and dry but has stated his willingness to be with the team beyond this season. If Rondo’s goal is to truly win another championship before he retires then playing for coach Carlisle and the Mavericks organization might be the best situation for him.

Then again, this is not a situation that is going to go ignored when it comes time for other teams to recruit Rondo and it’s a bad look for all involved.
