Chris Sale is out three weeks with a right foot injury.

It really has been an awful week for Chicago sports. Firstly, it was Patrick Kane of the Chicago Blackhawks who fractured his clavicle, which would keep him on the shelf for six weeks. Secondly, it was Derrick Rose who injured his surgically-repaired meniscus. Perhaps the better news of the Rose injury, though, is that he would be able to come back and play before the playoffs.

However, on Saturday, another Chicago injury came about. This time, the injury was to Chris Sale in the MLB.

According to NBC Sports’ Hardball Talk, Sale will be sidelined for three weeks because of an avulsion fracture on his right foot. It was also reported that the injury occurred when Sale was unloading things off the back of his truck.

Despite the injury, Sale believes that he will be available for Opening Day, which would likely be his first start of the year considering he is the No. 1 pitcher on this roster.

"“It has already come up, ‘How are we going to get over that first bump in the road?’” Sale said. “But we’ll act accordingly and figure it out along the way. … I’ll just try to work around it or work through it and go from there.”"

Luckily enough for not only the White Sox, but the White Sox fans as well, there is a silver lining from this injury. Vice President and general manager Rick Hahn thought that this injury would’ve been much more severe. However, Sale will be out for just three weeks.

Despite Sale’s comments on how he will likely be available for Opening Day, the White Sox are taking the precautionary approach to this injury and that could mean he might not be available for Opening Day.

Despite the injury, the White Sox have playoff aspirations for this season. With Sale being out for just three weeks, their chances of doing that won’t change that much. It’s reassuring to know that this injury is not that significant as many previously thought.
