Derrick Rose and the Chicago Bulls have looked like legitimate contenders for the majority of the season, but that took a blow this past week when the former MVP of the league was lost to a meniscus tear that required surgery to repair.
The Bulls are still title contenders without Rose, but the question yet again has become how far do the Bulls need to go and how much time to they need to buy in order to get Rose back this season.
According to K.C. Johnson from the Chicago Tribune, that may not be long, as Rose is reportedly confident he will return from his most recent injury before the end of the season.
Initially the prognosis for Rose was 4-6 weeks which puts him out — at the latest — until the beginning of April. But not only will he miss all of March, this is also the third knee injury that he has suffered in a very short period of time. That is the type of thing that can ruin a players confidence.
Rose is young, and to heal his body and come back from this type of injury. Chicago has built up a team perfectly around him, and has added all of the missing pieces from the last couple of years. Pau Gasol is the big man that they have been needing, while Jimmy Butler is the perfect complimentary scoring wing for Rose.
There is no question that the Bulls have a chance to contend in the Eastern Conference, but without Rose that task becomes much more difficult.
It will be interesting to see what ends up happening with Rose down the stretch of the season. He does want to come back and the Bulls want him back as well, but it will all depend on the confidence that he has in his knee.
