Jimmie Johnson came out with a big win in Atlanta at the NASCAR Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 Sunday.

It was a dark, gloomy day in Atlanta for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 Sunday, but it was all sunshine for Jimmie Johnson, who held on for his first NASCAR win of the season.

Chevrolet went 1, 2, 3 in a big race Sunday. Jimmie Johnson led 92 laps, as his car created a big gap during the last 10 laps of the race in front of Kevin Harvick, who led 116 laps, and Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Jimmie Johnson won the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2013 and he’ll look to gain another one in 2015 and he’s off to a good start.

There were some big crashes in the last 100 laps of the race that collected the cars of some big names like Jeff Gordon, Denny Hamlin, Greg Biffle, Tony Stewart, Ryan Newman and many more.

With 69 laps to go, Denny Hamlin’s car came lose and collected Jaimie McMurray, Ryan Newman and Jeff Gordon. Gordon’s car ran into an inside wall with no safety barrels and was visibly not happy about it as he left his car and complained to a NASCAR official. Kyle Busch, who continues to sit out after getting injured in Saturday night’s Daytona Xfinity Series race when he hit an inside wall with no safety barriers and suffered a concussion and leg injury, tweeted his angst towards NASCAR after the crash Sunday.

Another big crash occurred with 20 laps to go collected the cars of Greg Biffle, Tony Stewart, Clint Bowyer, Sam Hornish, among others.

That left a small field on the lead lap at the end of the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500, where Jimmie JohnsonĀ got his first win of the season.

Joey Logano, who won the first race of the year, the Daytona 500, last week, placed fourth as he stays at the top of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series standings after he had a good race car this week after he won the pole going into the race.

Defending NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Kevin Harvick finished second for the second straight week to open his first two races this year as he looks to repeat as champion this year.

Johnson was a 7-1 favorite to win the race and he got it done Sunday. Johnson had the fastest car Sunday, and despite the down year last season, Johnson showed Sunday that he and his crew still bring it every race and have a big future this season.
