The Coyotes have shipped their star defenseman to the Rangers

With the trade deadline less than 24 hours away, teams are beginning to make deals as they look to bolster their roster for their playoff run. Today, the New York Rangers added an offensive threat for the blue line when they acquired defenseman Keith Yandle from the Arizona Coyotes.

In return, the Coyotes will receiver Rangers prospect Anthony Duclair, defenseman John Moore, New York’s 2016 first-round draft pick and a second-round pick in 2015.

The Coyotes will retain 50% of Yandle’s salary. The Coyotes also sent defenseman Chris Summers and a 4th round pick to New York.

Yandle has another year on his deal that carries a $5.25 million cap hit.

For the defending Eastern Conference Champions, this move was all about fortifying their blue line as the playoffs draw near. The Rangers are currently two points out of the top spot in the Metropolitan Division.

While Yandle isn’t really known for his defense, the former All-Star has the ability to produce points and can help captain the power play for the Rangers.

For the Coyotes, this move is all about continuing to build toward the future. Yesterday, the team shipped out Antoine Vermette to the Chicago Blackhawks.

The Coyotes are in the running for a top spot in the draft and have the ability to add a dynamic young player in the draft.

In the deal, the Coyotes added a dynamic young prospect in Anthony Duclair who has played with Coyotes prospect Max Domi in juniors.

The playoffs are drawing near in the NHL, and on Sunday, Yandle was the next domino to fall.
