Keith Olbermann returned to his nightly ESPN show following his suspension last week with a message regarding Penn State and Twitter.
Keith Olbermann returned to his nightly show on the ESPN network today, following his suspension last week. Olbermann who was suspended due to a Twitter spat with Penn State University fans, where he replied to a Penn State fan’s tweet that read “We are” and included a link to a site where there was a story posted about Penn State students participating in a fundraising drive to raise money for pediatric cancer. Only Olbermann finished the “We are” thought by adding the word pitiful, as he thought it was a reference to Penn State’s storied and recently defamed football program.
K.O. explains in the video below that he never went to the link that was included to the Tweet and had he done that he never would have made the statement that he did. Olbermann states that he was watching bating practice at the time and didn’t bother to check the link.
Olbermann apologized via twitter last week before be served a suspension. Olbermann states in his opening segment that he will no longer take part in “batting practice” when it comes to Twitter, using it as an analogy for hasty response time on social media, where little thought is given to a quick response.
"“Since I did a commentary in January slamming part of the Penn State U community that still is prioritizing its football team’s statistics over the awful legacy of Jerry Sandusky, I have periodically been barraged on Twitter by that part of the community and have swung back as hard and as fast and as blindly as possible,” Olbermann explained. Olbermann continued in his show opener, “I was not a victim here.. I brought this on myself this is my fault”."
Keith Olbermann also made note towards the end of his opening segment that he is a large donator to both St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and the Make-A-Wish foundation, making over 200 separate donations to the organizations. Olbermann went on to explain that the recent passings of both his mother in 2009 and his father in 2010 are a large reason for his support of cancer research.
