New York Yankees are running low on available jersey numbers
With so many players having their number retired by the Yankees, the team is running out of available numbers at spring training.
With the storied history the New York Yankees have in sports, they have a lot of retired numbers because of all the great players that have helped the Yankees transcend the game of baseball. While the Yankees have had so many great players, it’s causing an issue when it comes to available uniform numbers.

With spring training underway for the Yankees in Tampa Bay, Florida, the team has their full squad in ready for practice and workouts.
However, thanks to the legends of Yankees past, the team is slowly running out of available numbers. The Yankees currently have 23 jersey numbers retired or waiting to be retired.
In fact, the team only has four jersey numbers available right now. The available jersey numbers are 38, 50, 57 and 69.
The final four available numbers even have some Yankees history behind them.
"Even those unoccupied numbers have some history behind them though, with 38 being worn by Yogi Berra in his second season with the team before he switched to the No. 8 that sits among the team’s other retired numbers. Meanwhile, 57 seems to be a bit of jinx, with three separate players donning the number last season alone.No. 69 was only worn once, by pitcher Alan Mills in the early 90’s. Mills had a particularly odd run with the team as far as jerseys are concerned, donning five different numbers in just two seasons with the organization, according to Yankeenumbers.com."
So as the Yankees gear up their year-long quest for World Championship No. 28, the team is beginning to run out of numbers and that’s just fine with them.
