Maxx Williams is on the Minnesota Vikings’ radar.

It’s no secret that Maxx Williams is an absolute beats at the tight end position. A University of Minnesota product, Williams is by far the best tight end in this year’s draft class. Blessed with athleticism to go along with his huge frame at 6-foot-4, 250 pounds, Williams has the makings of a stud NFL tight end. The Golden Gophers deployed a predominately run-blocking scheme last season, and in this scheme, they used a player who was recruited to be a fullback at the quarterback position.

That being said, Williams’ college production doesn’t jump out at you, but there’s no question in regards to his ability. Williams dominated the run-first offense and he has traits that intrigue pass-happy offensive coaches. One team who has a ton of interest in Williams is none other than the Minnesota Vikings.

According to Gil Brandt of NFL.com, over 20 teams were present to watch Williams at Minnesota’s pro day on Monday. However, the entire coaching staff from the Vikings were in attendance. While it’s not that far of a drive for the Vikings’ staff, considering Williams is an in-state prospect, it should be said that a game-changing tight end like Williams would definitely be on Minnesota’s radar. As of now, the Vikings hold the 11th pick, and while tight ends don’t usually go that high, it should be said that Eric Ebron went 10th to the Detroit Lions in last year’s draft and given their abilities, Williams is more of a sure thing than Ebron.

After bringing in Teddy Bridgewater last year, it’s time for the Vikings to put weapons around him. They already had a great defense led by Mike Zimmer and it really will only get better with time. Offensive coordinator Norv Turner is famous for developing tight ends. He has developed guys like Jay Novacek, Antonio Gates, and even Jordan Cameron in his NFL tenure. Imagine what Turner could do with a guy like Williams.

Bringing in Williams would help out Bridgewater and this offense a lot as it would give them a guy who could line up as an in-line tight end, a flex tight end, or even a tight end that can line up outside. Kyle Rudolph has failed to establish himself as the tight end of this roster and Rhett Ellison and Chase Ford aren’t that much better. It may not be their biggest need, but bringing in Williams could very well do wonders for this football team.
