Lance Moore is no longer a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Before the year, Lance Moore was brought in to compete for the No. 3 wide receiver position with the Pittsburgh Steelers. When you think of the elite quarterbacks in this league, all of them have terrific slot receivers. However, Ben Roethlisberger did not have one and when you look at Moore and his elite route-running ability, it’s easy to see why the Pittsburgh Steelers were willing to bring him in.

However, because of Antonio Brown’s emergence, rookie Martavis Bryant bursting onto the scene and Markus Wheaton proving himself as a deep-ball option, the Steelers didn’t have a lot of space for Moore. That being said, the Steelers have officially released him on Monday.

Josina Anderson of ESPN reported the news.

In 2014, his only season with the Steelers, Moore caught just 14 passes for 198 yards and two touchdowns. Just a few seasons ago in 2011, Moore was a 1,000-yard receiver. Granted, he had Drew Brees as his quarterback, something has to be said about Moore, who caught 65 passes for 1,041 yards and six touchdowns.

Moore was so upset with his role in Pittsburgh that he reportedly asked for his release. Well, the Steelers granted Moore his wish, and at 31 years old, he finds himself in a similar position he was in last year after the New Orleans Saints had cut him.

Well, the good news for Moore is that he could very well be a member of the Saints again next season. The Saints need some help at the skill positions to help out Brees and the Toledo product would be a cheap option. When the 2015 NFL season rolls around, Moore will be 32 years old, and although he has taken a lot of damage on his 5-foot-9, 190-pound body, he’s a veteran and a guy who can simply find the weak spot of a defense.

Moore is out of work right now, but one team will be happy to have him for 2015.
