The Dallas Cowboys decided they wanted to hand one of their wide receivers a new contract — just not the wide receiver on the team. Des Bryant is a franchise player, hence the reason he was given the franchise tag, but he wasn’t the receiver who was rewarded with a new contract.
Instead, slot receiver Cole Beasley was given a four-year deal from the Cowboys, which is a deal in length that many believe should have gone to Bryant.
Bryant, who is embroiled in his own contract dispute at the moment — in a way — took he time to congratulate Beasley on his new extension with the Cowboys.
It’s hard to call Bryant’s situation with the Cowboys a ‘dispute’ in the traditional sense since he was franchise tagged and will be one of the highest paid players at his position. But Bryant deserves a long term deal — a four-year deal like Beasley got — and that’s where it becomes a bit of a dispute.
Still, Bryant and Beasley are big parts of the Cowboys offense and they’re both coming back no matter what next season. That’s huge Dallas and even if Bryant didn’t get a new contract, he has renewed motivation to play into one next season.
