The Philadelphia Inquirer had some fun at the expense of Chip Kelly and the Philadelphia Eagles after the team traded LeSean McCoy for Kiko Alonso.

Chip Kelly made the unpopular decision to trade former NFL rushing champion, LeSean McCoy on Tuesday evening for former Defensive Rookie of the Year Kiko Alonso as he revamps the Eagles roster.

Kelly is in charge in Philly and has the personnel power to make moves like this, but it comes with some risk because he’s trading a proven commodity and fan favorite in McCoy for Alonso who missed last season after tearing his ACL.

Alonso played for Kelly at Oregon and is now the ninth former Duck on the Eagles roster where Kelly is looking to get “his guys” on the roster and likely has guys in the locker room who could be the next to be shipped out-of-town or released.

The Philadelphia Enquirer had some fun at the growing number of Oregon players in the Eagles locker room. This will really look even more accurate if/when the Eagles trade up to draft Oregon quarterback, Marcus Mariota in April.

McCoy led the NFL with 314 carries and 1,607 yards in 2013 and after a slow start in 2014 finished strong with 312 carries for 1,319 yards, but his advanced salary and a likely dip in production over the next two-three seasons for a back turning 27 in July let to this blockbuster trade.

Alonso is not just a familiar face for Kelly, because he is potential perennial Pro Bowler who can be special in the middle of the Eagles defense. He made 159 combined tackles as a rookie for the Bills in 2013 with four interceptions, one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries.

Don’t be quick to name a winner in this trade, because it looks like a win-win for both teams and you have to give something to get something which is exactly what happened here. Granted, it is difficult to say goodbye to a fan favorite like McCoy, but that pain will diminish when Alonso is making plays all over the field.

A lot of stars have left Philadelphia recently with McCoy joining Michael Carter-Williams who was traded by the Philadelphia 76ers and Jimmy Rollins who was shipped out by the Philadelphia Phillies in December.

May wanna avoid trading Pat’s and Geno’s, the Liberty Bell, William Penn statue, or the Rocky Statue to avoid a full-blown meltdown coming from the city.
