Former Baltimore Ravens and New York Giants defensive end Chris Canty will be visiting with the New York Jets this week.

Former Baltimore Ravens and New York Giants defensive end Chris Canty may be returning to the New York area.

The veteran defensive end and Super Bowl champion will reportedly visit with the New York Jets this week, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Canty played four seasons with the New York Giants between 2009 and 2012, winning a Super Bowl with the Giants in 2011, after spending the first four seasons of his career with the Dallas Cowboys. He signed a three-year deal with the Ravens as a free agent in 2013, but was released from the Ravens last week.

By releasing Canty before free agency official opens on March 10, Canty is eligible to sign with another team right away. The 32-year old Bronx, New York native said that he appreciates the Ravens releasing him early so that he can get a head start on the free agency process.

"I’m a veteran. I understand the value of starting this process before free agency. Right now, all I’m thinking about is getting the opportunity to compete for a championship. I would like to really get another piece of hardware, another ring."

Not sure the Jets are the right place to go if he wants to get another ring, but his options may be limited at this point.

Canty had 33 tackles, half a sack and a forced fumble in 11 games this season. He missed five games due to injury and a staff infection in his wrist and thumb this season. During his 10-year NFL career, Canty has started 119 games while playing in 139, combiling 335 tackles, 21.5 sacks and 5 forced fumbles.

Canty could be a good depth addition to an already strong New York Jets defensive line. He would also bring some veteran leadership to the defense, as well some valuable experience of having won a Super Bowl Championship. Canty plans to meet with the Jets on Friday and Saturday.
