The Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao fight is going to be one of the seminal moments in boxing history, but there is a way you can see the fight for free — with a pretty massive catch.
There hasn’t been a boxing match that has captured the nucleus of pop culture quite like the bout between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao. It’s a fight that should have happened 5 years ago, but the wait seems to have not at all devalued the fight, as tickets are going for as much as $250,000.
But there’s a way for you to see the fight for free, which is something that isn’t as widely possible with this fight as it is with others. Fight promoters aren’t comping tickets to the bout for anyone — not even celebrities — but there’s a massive catch to this rule.
If you want to see Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao for free there are two things that need to happen. The first is you need to be a top tier A-List celebrity — which disqualifies almost all of us. The second is you need to be a top tier A-List celebrity willing to whore yourself to random brands in order to get free tickets to the fight.
According to TMZ, there is a way to get around the $100k surcharge that celebrities will have to pay on ringside seats to Pacquiao-Mayweather, but it includes being a walking billboard.
"We’ve learned there’s another option. If a celeb is willing to endorse companies by wearing logo-emblazoned gear at the fight — that company will eat the ticket cost. For instance, we’re told VOCO Vodka & Coconut Water has already made such offers to Leo [Leonardo di Caprio], RiRi [Rihanna], and Big Willie [Will Smith] … in exchange for front row seats."
There’s actually a lot on the line for startups like VOCO being out there like this offering celebs a chance to sit ringside if it means endorsing their product. If a celebrity says no, that’s going to be massively damaging to their brand as it would be a rejection of the most public kind.
Then again, getting a celeb to endorse their product sort of okays it in the eyes of the public and would be the passing of the litmus test that many need to get on board. That’s the gamble here, but it’s only an offer available to celebrities because they’re not normal folk like us.
