San Francisco Giants outfielder, Hunter Pence, has fractured his foreman after getting hit by a pitch in a spring training game against the Chicago Cubs

In a spring training game against the Chicago Cubs, Hunter Pence fractured his left arm. Corey Black hurled a pitch that ran a little too far inside on the right-hander, nailing him on the left forearm causing him to grimace in pain for a few moments on the ground before getting checked out by trainers. X-Rays have come back the following day indicating a fracture in the forearm with a recovery period of 6-8 weeks.

Even though you never want to see one of your best players go down with an injury, the good news is that it comes during the beginning of spring training. The 2014 World Series Champions don’t officially start their season until April 6th, so Pence will have plenty of time to fully recover before their season really starts heating up.

The bad news is that he will be out for all of spring training. He will not have time to get his swing ready for opening day and maybe not even their home opener. This spring training time is extremely important when it comes to shaking that post-World Series rust off.

Pence has not had a major injury like this for two seasons with Giants. He has played in 162 games the last two years, which is why this injury leaves a little bit of uncertainty in the minds of Giants fans. A fracture to the forearm doesn’t necessarily raise any red flags to a slugger like Pence as long as it heals okay. With that being said, it will definitely take some time to properly heal and Pence to get back in top form.

What makes this all a little bit worse is this comes after the departure of Pablo Sandoval, as he signed with the Boston Red Sox earlier this winter. With Panda out of the lineup, the defending champs were relying on Pence to be a huge power presence in the heart of the order.

But at the end of the day, it is just an injury that will keep Pence out of the lineup for at most 2 months. So moving forward, there is nothing really to worry about just yet in San Francisco.
