Louis Van Gaal: David De Gea is ‘unbelievable’
By Alan Condon
Manchester United head coach Louis Van Gaal praised his number one goalkeeper David De Gea after he starred in yet another performance for the Red Devils, keeping a clean sheet with a string of impressive saves against Newcastle United.
After another dismal display from Manchester United, in which several of their biggest stars under-performed, David De Gea pulled off a string of first-class saves to keep the Magpies at bay and ensure a crucial three points for the Old Trafford club.

With Barcelona’s Victor Valdes having signed for United in the January transfer window, and rumors omitting from the club that Van Gaal hasn’t spoken to De Gea for several months, reports linking the United number one to Real Madrid this summer have been increasing in substance.
With Iker Casillas’ Los Blancos tenure looking like it is finally drawing to a close, 24-year-old Spaniard David De Gea seems to be the keeper that the Real Madrid directors want to bring to the club.
Victor Valdes’ January signing begs more questions than it answers, but Louis Van Gaal had nothing but praise for the United number one, who has saved the Dutchman’s blushes on several occasions this season.
“David De Gea, this year, is unbelievable,” said van Gaal.
“In my career I have a lot of good goalkeepers, for example Edwin van der Sar was one of my goalkeepers and (Victor) Valdes also with Barcelona, but De Gea is having a great season.”
Manchester United extend their run to just two defeats in 22 games in all competitions courtesy of Ashley Young’s late winner, which came when Mehdi Abeid, under intense pressure from Wayne Rooney, stabbed hospitalizing back-pass towards keeper Tim Krul, whose effort to clear the ball only served to put the ball on a plate for the midfielder.
“Now we are still fourth, we have dominated the game in an away match, difficult ground, so everybody is full of confidence to play against Arsenal in the FA Cup quarter-finals, and that’s very important.”
Manchester United currently lie in fourth position, two points ahead of Liverpool and five behind city rivals Manchester City. They host Arsenal at in the quarter-final of the FA Cup before recommencing their fight for a top four finish with a tough match against in-form Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford.
