Cornerback Cary Williams was among the Philadelphia Eaglesā set of releases to clear up salary cap space.
When youāre self-proclaimed among the best cornerbacks in the league, you go to play with the best.

Last preseason, Cary Williams compared himself to such luminaries as the Seahawksā Richard Sherman, the Patriotsā Darrelle Revis and the Cardinalsā Patrick Peterson.
From CSN Philly:
"āI look at my career. Iāve played in playoff games,ā he said. āMost of those guys havenāt played in playoff games. It is what it is. Hopefully those guys could make it to the playoffs. Hopefully those guys could continue the success that theyāve had in their careers. Much respect to those guys, because I donāt see much of a difference in any of them.ā"
Of course of the obvious four best corners in the game, Cary Williams was the only one to miss the playoffs this past year. After being released by the Eagles, he is looking to rectify that.
It may be tough for Williams to crack the starting lineup in Seattle behind Sherman and fellow Jeremy Lane. Williams would be transitioning from the worst secondary in the league, where he helped allow numerous long plays and commit too many penalties, to the best secondary in the league that swallowed up plays on the outside and punished crossing routes on the inside with the zone scheme.
Williams was far from the worst player in that secondary that also included Bradley Fletcher and Nate Allen, but he was a priority for release as his cap number jumped to over $8 million for this year after sitting at $6.4 million.
Cary Williams has a history of being chippy both in practice and on the field. As a member of the Baltimore Ravens, Williams got into a fight at Super Bowl XLVII against the San Francisco 49ers that included him shoving a referee to the ground. As an Eagle, he also fought Riley Cooper following Cooperās racist comments at a concert and got annihilated by Steve Smith during a game.
To some degree, that chippy-nessĀ is what you want to see so long as it doesnāt end up with Williams on the ground. If the Seahawks are showing interest in Cary Williams, then he would obviously want to follow up. But he may not be able to get the playing time that his self-endowed greatness deserves.
