San Francisco 49ers sign WR Jerome Simpson
After being released by the Minnesota Vikings in 2014, wide receiver Jerome Simpson has signed with the San Francisco 49ers.
Jerome Simpson was released from the Minnesota Vikings in September of 2014 when he was serving a three-game suspension for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy and in turn, sat out the rest of the year. The San Francisco 49ers decided to take a chance on Simpson Thursday when they signed him to a 2-year deal.
29-year-old Simpson played the first three years of his career in Cincinnati with the Bengals, before signing a one-year deal with the Minnesota Vikings in 2012. Simpson served a three game suspension in the beginning of the 2012 season with the Vikings, as well. After playing in 2012, he signed a one year deal with Minnesota and after 2013 signed another one year deal with the team before they let him go in 2014.
Simpson’s best season came in 2013 with Minnesota when he caught 48 passes for 726 yards and one touchdown.
Jerome Simpson is most well known for his front flip over Arizona Cardinals linebacker Daryl Washington in 2011 that landed him feet-first in the end zone for a touchdown.
Wide receiver Michael Crabtree is set to become a free agent for the San Francisco 49ers this offseason and there are also questions about Stevie Johnson’s future, leaving a big need for receivers in San Francisco.
The San Francisco 49ers also added former Arizona Cardinals defensive tackle Darnell Dockett to their team Thursday as they continue to make moves to improve their team this offseason.
