Their names are spelled exactly the same, they both play for NFL teams and they’re both on Twitter. The problem is, one of them plays for the Bears and the other for the Broncos. The Bears are rumored to be looking to trade Brandon Marshall, but not that Brandon Marshall.
Confused yet?
The Other Brandon Marshall decided to take advantage of this hilarious case of mistaken identity and tweet something to stoke the flames.
You can see how anyone coming across that Tweet and not knowing which Brandon Marshall it was would immediately be overwhelmed with frenzy at this hottest of takes. Oh it was. There were 1,700 retweets in less than an hour and it currently sits at almost 3,000.
BMarshh54 later tweeted that he had over 800 unread mentions, followed by a weary emoticon. One might wonder what exactly he expected, getting Twitter worked up like that. People on Twitter only read 140 characters, they can’t very well be expected to look at his profile and see if he was THAT Brandon Marshall. Come on son.
Red Eye Chicago, a Chicago media outlet, tried to calm the firestorm with an informational tweet.
By that time it was too late. Only 103 retweets compared to the thousands of the Other Brandon Marshall. SI.com had a great way to look at it. Just remember that one Brandon Marshall plays for the Broncos, while the other Brandon Marshall used to play for the Broncos, but now plays for the Bears. Until he doesn’t.
The latest on the Brandon Marshall rumors is the same, that the Bears are likely looking into trading him. The key date is March 12th, when Marshall’s base $7.5 million salary becomes fully guaranteed.
