The imbalance of incoming players and outgoing players on the South Side is stark. Out are guys such as over the hill veterans like Paul Konerko and Adam Dunn, while players still in their prime are incoming.
One of the more impossible jobs to have in all of sports was to be the man who replaced the great Mariano Rivera in the Bronx. For David Robertson though, becoming the next New York Yankees closer in 2014 was a breeze.
His 39 saves and 96 strikeouts in 64.1 innings proved that notion very clearly. Now, as he becomes the closer for the Sox, he’ll look to improve upon one of the more horrid units in baseball last season as they finished third to last with a 4.38 earned run average.
If pitching was the question this winter, then Jeff Samardzija is the answer.
Samardzija will join a staff that was in desperate need of a number two man behind ace Chris Sale.
