The New York Jets traded for Jay Cutler’s No. 1 target, Brandon Marshall on Friday, so could they be thinking of bringing Cutler to the Big Apple too?

Brandon Marshall was traded for the third time in his career as he joins the New York Jets after the Chicago Bears traded him for a fifth round pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, but could his favorite quarterback be joining him in the Big Apple?

Cutler and Marshall demonstrated great chemistry and production with the Denver Broncos when the two were just beginning their careers and thrived for the first two seasons after the Bears acquired Marshall in a trade with the Miami Dolphins.

Marshall has been a virtual lock for 100 receptions and 1,000-plus yards with Cutler as his quarterback, so could the Jets bring him in too and provide competition for underwhelming starter, Geno Smith?

In a word: No.

According to Rich Cimini who covers the Jets for ESPN.com shot down the fan-fueled chatter about the Jets taking another problem off the hands of the Bears.

Cutler can be had for the right price, according to NFL Media insider Ian Rapoport, but don’t expect the Jets to meet that price for compensation and then pick up the remaining money on Cutler’s deal which makes any deal for him unlikely.

This should delight Jets fans, even those who don’t think Smith is the answer, because Cutler isn’t the answer either and is far more expensive.

As for the Jets, Smith is expected to have competition for the starting job whether that comes fromĀ a developmental arm in the draft or in the form of a veteran in free agency.

But could you have imagined the circus that would ensue with the New York media if they had Marshall and Cutler to cover next year?
