Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr took a jab at Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey for his constant campaigning for James Harden to be MVP.

The NBA MVP race is about as close as it could possibly be at this point of the season. There’s no clear frontrunner, with Stephen Curry, James Harden, LeBron James and Russell Westbrook all having a good shot to take home the award.

While an exciting situation for NBA fans, the close race seems to have caused some tension between a few of the parties involved.

Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr took a not-so-subtle shot at Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey for his campaigning of Harden for MVP.

From ESPN’s Ethan Sherwood Strauss:

"“I care. I’d like for Steph to win the MVP, and I think he deserves it,” Kerr said Thursday after practice. However, Kerr said, “I don’t think it’s our job to promote it,” and drew a distinction between the Warriors’ approach and that of the Houston Rockets. Rockets general manager Daryl Morey has publicly supported James Harden‘s MVP campaign, actively promoting it on Twitter and in other venues.“We’re trying to win games. We’ve got a lot of work to do,” Kerr said Thursday. “So, if Daryl Morey wants to run his own one-man campaign for James Harden, he can do that. That’s fine. But we’re focused on other stuff.”"

It’s pretty interesting to see a coach attack another executive as blatantly as Kerr did there, but there’s no denying that the Rockets and Morey have been campaigning hard for their shooting guard.

Still, Morey made clear during an appearance on ESPN Radio’s The Dan Le Batard Show that he didn’t believe Kerr was making a valid argument.

"“I would say that myself and James are only focused on winning the championship, so I think that’s a bit of a straw-man argument he set up,” Morey said."

Now, this is an entertaining back-and-forth. However, the MVP is going to be decided on the court, so Kerr and Morey might want to set the next couple of plays out.
