Blackhawks fan gets stitches from getting hit with glass, stays remainder of the game (Video)
Chicago Blackhawks fan gets hit in the head with glass and has to get stitches, but stayed to finish watching the game.
People always talk about how tough hockey players are. Well, it rubs off on the fan base as well.
Friday night, the Chicago Blackhawks were hosting the Edmonton Oilers. In the first five minutes of the game, Oilers forward Benoit Pouliot got a hard hit on Blackhawks defenseman Niklas Hjalmarsson into the boards. The hit was hard enough to knock the panel of glass out of it’s place. The glass first seemed to come down on a camera man standing right behind the glass, but then seemed to hit a young woman attending the game.

That woman was Alexis Bovard, and it was actually her first ever Blackhawks game she was attending. How did she get so lucky? The glass hit Alexis in the head and cut her open, significantly enough that she had to leave the game to go get stitches. However, like a true hockey fan, she realized that if these players can get stitched up and come back and continue playing hockey, she could go get stitched up and at least keep watching hockey.
She did just that, as she later returned to her seat with bandages around her head and continued to watch the game.
Alexis told SportsNet’s Gene Principe about her experience, via Yahoo! Sports.
"If I even remember correctly, I was watching the game and you know the big hits come to the glass and the next thing I know the glass is on my head and blood is everywhere and people are all around me and I make it up the stairs and hear all these applause, um, which was nice to hear. I’ll be making my way to get some stitches shortly. I was bummed it happened so early."
That’s a dedicated hockey fan.
I like the fact that the Blackhawks PR people offered her a puck and a t-shirt after she returned to the game. That’s nice of them, but I hope that wasn’t all that they offered her. They should have gave her the opportunity to meet some of the players after the game, it would have fired the team up to see one of their fans just as dedicated as they are.
Hockey players may be the toughest athletes in the world, but their fans may be the toughest fans in the world.
