Chargers will make a run at DT Ndamukong Suh
By Evan Massey
The San Diego Chargers will make an attempt to sign star defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh in free agency this offseason.
Ndamukong Suh is one of the hottest names on the free agent market this offseason, and there have already been quite a few rumors flying around about teams being interested. One new team that has jumped in and is preparing to make a run at signing Suh is the San Diego Chargers.
San Diego finished the 2014 season with a 9-7 record, but fell to the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 17 to fall out of the playoffs. It was a very depressing finish to a solid all-around season, but adding Suh would immediately improve one of their big weaknesses. The Chargers finished just 26th in the NFL against the run defensively, giving up 124.1 yards per game.

Last season with the Detroit Lions, Suh ended up recording 53 tackles and 8.5 sacks. They may not look like huge numbers, but at 6’4″ and 305 pounds he forces offenses out of their normal game plans.
At 28 years old, Suh is likely signing his last huge contract and is going to look for the biggest deal that he can find. San Diego has some money saved up and they will be able to make a competitive offer. That being said, Suh will also want to compete for a championship and that simply isn’t likely to happen with the Chargers.
There is a chance that Suh could make the Chargers contenders, but he will have plenty of other offers from more legitimate contenders.
Indianapolis appears to have a good chance at signing Suh, especially with the cap room that they have. They finished the season in the AFC Championship game, but came up just short against the New England Patriots. Miami is another team to keep an eye on, and they are going to put on a full-court press to sign him.
That being said, the Chargers could force their name into consideration. If Suh is wanting to play in a nice area, then there aren’t many teams that could contend with San Diego. He would also become the face of the Chargers’ defense.
Expect to see plenty more rumors come out about Suh over the next few days. Tuesday is the opening day of free agency, and it is going to be an extremely busy next couple weeks in the NFL. There are quite a few big names on the market, but there aren’t many players with as many rumors flying around about them as Suh.
