The Houston Texans could use some help at the wide receiver position, and could look into signing Green Bay Packers free agent wide receiver Randall Cobb.

Randall Cobb is one of the most popular free agents this offseason, and there are already quite a few teams showing interest in him. The Green Bay Packers would like to re-sign him, but they aren’t expected to be able to afford the contract that he ends up signing. It appears that he will be getting around $11-12 million per year.

John McClain mentioned that the Texans could be a nice landing spot for Cobb, but also noted that he would cost a lot of money.

Andre Johnson is on his way out-of-town this offseason after rejecting the reduced role that head coach Bill O’Brien was wanting to give to him. Houston is trying to trade him, but will end up cutting him if they can’t find the type of deal that they are looking for. Cobb would be a perfect fit alongside of DeAndre Hopkins, but whether or not they can afford him is another question.

During the 2014 season with the Packers, Cobb ended up catching 91 passes for 1,287 yards and 12 touchdowns.

At 24 years old, there is no question that he is one of the most intriguing free agents on the market. He has already turned into an offensive star, and he has yet to come close to his full potential. Perhaps playing in a situation like Houston would allow him to reach that potential.

Aaron Rodgers and Cobb developed a lot of chemistry last season, and losing him would be a tough loss for the Packers. They are offering around $9 million per year at this point in time, which simply will not be enough to bring him back. The Oakland Raiders and Jacksonville Jaguars are two teams that have known interest in Cobb as well.

There are going to be plenty more rumors surrounding Cobb over the next few days with free agency opening up on Tuesday. Houston is a team to keep an eye on, but there are going to be plenty more teams registering interest.

Cobb has the potential to be a legitimate number one wide receiver as he continues to grow his game. It will be interesting to see where he ends up landing and how much money he gets. Next season will be a big year for Cobb to prove himself if he does end up leaving Green Bay.
