Brian Hoyer was basically forced out of Cleveland following a season in which he nearly fixed a franchise that has been terrible for pretty much ever.

The last time the Browns were in the postseason, their quarterback was something called Kelly Holcomb — and that’s the only time they’ve been in the playoffs since re-joining the NFL in 1999. To find their last playoff win, you’ll need to go back to New Year’s Day in 1995 when Bill Belichick ironically beat the New England Patriots.

Two teams looking to avoid reaching the Browns-level of suckage are the New York Jets and Houston Texans. In order to avoid being as terrible as the Browns are, both teams are reportedly looking at signing Cleveland’ ex-quarterback, Brian Hoyer.

According to ESPN’s Josina Anderson, the New York Jets and Houston Texans re the frontrunners to sign Brian Hoyer at the moment.

In a separate report, Anderson mentions that the San Francisco 49ers and Minnesota Vikings are also in the mix to sign Hoyer. All four teams make sense, but it’s clear why the Jets and Texans are the frontrunners in this case.

With Minnesota and San Francisco, Hoyer would be the backup — no questions asked. He’d have a chance to start if either Colin Kaepernick or Teddy Bridgewater falter, but there’s no promised starting role. With the Jets and Texans, the starting role belonging to Hoyer is basically assumed, given the utter lack of depth at quarterback with either team.

Hoyer landing in New York or Houston would be ideal for all parties involved, but it’s clear he’ll have decisions to make before picking which team he wants to take his coveted talents to in 2015.
