Cary Williams is a coveted free agent target who is set to get serious interest from three teams in need of cornerback upgrades.
The NFL offseason officially starts in a few days when Free Agency opens league-wide. There are already teams agreeing to terms with players, but no actual contracts can be signed until Tuesday afternoon. One player you can bet on not jumping on the first contract offer he sees is former Eagles and Ravens cornerback Cary Williams.
After being cut by Philadelphia this past week, Williams is already garnering attention from three big time clubs, as the Seahawks, Jets and Titans are all interested in his services. The question isn’t about who he’ll sign with though, it’s how much will he get on the open market?
According to Aaron Wilson from the Baltimore Sun, the Jets, Titans and Seahawks appear to be the biggest players for ex-Eagles defensive back Cary Williams.
Williams won a Super Bowl with the Baltimore Ravens in 2013 but it’s been a rough go of things since then. He instantly clashed with the Eagles when he arrived there in the offseason that year and it was two lowly seasons with the team after that.
He still has talent, but his signing reeked of that of a player cashing in on his Super Bowl success. But putting Williams in the same defensive secondary as Earl Thomas and Richard Sherman could be deadly and that’s something the Seahawks will no doubt be looking at.
Tennessee needs to start building up a defensive presence, especially in a division that has Andrew Luck and an up-and-coming Blake Bortles in it. New York is eyeing Darrelle Revis, but landing both Revis and Williams in the same offseason could turn their secondary woes around in a very short amount of time.
