According to reports, the Giants are interested in Redskins free agent running back Roy Helu

The New York Giants after a sub-par 6-10 season are looking to upgrade the offense around Eli Manning and get back in postseason contention. One of the areas the Giants need to upgrade is the running back position.

During the NFL Scouting Combine, Giants general Manager let his intentions be known that the team is looking for a shifty running back.

That running back could be Roy Helu.

According to Jorand Raanan of NJ.com, the Giants are showing interest in Helu.

Helu was used in Washington as the shifty versatile back behind Alfred Morris.

"Washington used Helu as a change-of-pace option for Alfred Morris the past few seasons. While not the explosive playmaker the Giants were hoping to get when they drafted Wilson in the first round out of Virginia Tech in 2012, Helu does bring versatility to the table."

The Giants currently have a solid crop of running backs featuring Rashad Jennings and Andre Williams, but they lack that back that can change the pace and make some big plays down the field.

Not only is Helu shifty, but he is a great at receiving passes out of the backfield. He had 129 receptions in his four years as a member of the Redskins.

The Giants drafted David Wilson to be that guy in 2012, but he never developed into the player the Giants envisioned when they drafted and after a couple of season-ending injuries, Wilson retired before the 2014 season.

Helu would be a nice addition to the Giants offense and the offensive side of the ball would certainly become more dynamic.

The passing game between Eli Manning and Odell Beckham Jr. is beginning to evolve and having a complete running game to go with it would certainly make the Giants an exciting team to watch.
