Report: Tennessee Titans interested in Mark Sanchez
By Sam Richmond
The Tennessee Titans are exploring the idea of signing quarterback Mark Sanchez, according to a new report.
Mark Sanchez’s next NFL stop could be in Tennessee.
The Titans are interested in signing the free-agent quarterback, according to Mike Garafolo of Fox Sports.
Sanchez played decently last season with the Philadelphia Eagles, throwing for 2,418 yards, 14 touchdowns and 11 interceptions in nine games. However, Sanchez proved once again that he’s likely not good enough at this stage of his career to be a starting quarterback. Philly collapsed down the stretch under Sanchez, missing the playoffs after starting the year 9-3.

The Titans surely would not be bringing in Sanchez to start, but rather to backup Zach Mettenberger, who appeared in seven games last season, throwing for 1,412 yards, eight touchdowns and seven interceptions.
Though he’s been oft- criticized, Sanchez is a fine option as a backup quarterback. There’s an argument to be made that Sanchez is the best quarterback on the open market — an indicator of how bad the free-agent quarterback crop is — so it makes sense why the Titans would want him.
As Garafolo notes, a Sanchez return to Philadelphia appears to remain a real possibility. NJ.com reported on Saturday that there is a “strong mutual interest” between the two parties.
The New York Jets drafted Sanchez with the No. 5 pick of the 2009 NFL Draft. Sanchez led New York to back-to-back AFC Championship Game appearances in his first two years in the league. However, the USC product never developed into the franchise QB the team hoped he would be and drafted Geno Smith as his replacement in 2013.
In 71 career games, Sanchez has thrown for 14,510 yards, 82 touchdowns and 80 interceptions.
