Jake Long is headed to the open market.
The St. Louis Rams released the 29-year-old tackle on Monday after he spent two seasons on the team.
Former teammate Chris Long tweeted out his well-wishes to the left tackle once the news broke.
The Rams originally signed Long to a four-year, $34 million contract in 2013. Long played 15 games for St. Louis in 2013, but saw his 2014 season end after just seven games due to an ACL tear. Long is still rehabbing from the injury.
Despite the release, there remains a chance that Long’s Rams career isn’t over.
The Miami Dolphins selected Long with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft. Long spent four years with the Dolphins before signing with St. Louis and now will be a free agent and allowed to sign with any other team. Despite the injuries, there still could be some interest in the veteran tackle from some teams.
