Texans expected to cut WR Andre Johnson on Monday
By Evan Massey
The Houston Texans are expected to cut veteran wide receiver Andre Johnson on Monday, after he turned down a reduced role head coach Bill O’Brien offered.
Andre Johnson has been one of the NFL’s most consistent receivers during his time with the Houston Texans, but that era of his career is coming to an end. According to a report from Dianna Marie Russini of NBC, the Texans are expected to cut their long-time star wide receiver on Monday after he turned down a reduced role with the team.
It is definitely going to be a difficult time for the Texans’ organization and their fans to lose a player that has meant as much as Johnson has to their franchise. He has been the number one receiving option for Houston for quite some time, but that torch has now passed to DeAndre Hopkins.

At 33 years old, Johnson is still more than capable of putting up big numbers. He had a “down season” in 2014, and still ended up catching 85 passes for 936 yards and three touchdowns. There are quite a few teams that would love to sign Johnson and receive a few more of the down seasons that he just had.
Johnson is 6-foot-3 and 230 pounds, which makes him a very difficult matchup for any opposing defender. There have already been quite a few teams with noted interest in signing Johnson, and two of those teams are the Indianapolis Colts and Baltimore Ravens. Both teams would make a lot of sense, and Johnson does appear to have interest in the Colts especially.
Andrew Luck and the Colts offense is in need of another wide receiver, and Johnson would immediately step into the number two wide receiver role behind T.Y. Hilton. They decided not to re-sign Reggie Wayne, which opens up a spot for Johnson. He would also be able to compete for a championship with the Colts as well.
