Previous reports indicated that Hoyer would sign with Houston, but reportedly that isn’t a done deal yet.

Free agent quarterback Brian Hoyer was previously reported to have agreed to a deal with the Houston Texans. New reports indicate that this is no longer the case.

More from Houston Texans

Hoyer’s agent, Joe Linta, told NBC’s Pro Football Talk that Hoyer hasn’t made up his mind about the Texans yet. According to Linta, Hoyer wants to gather more information before making a final decision, including visiting the team facilities, coaches, and the city itself. Visits are prohibited during the NFL’s “legal tampering period,” but rather than rush into a decision, Hoyer wants to visit and know as much as he can about the team he signs with.

Hoyer’s family will also influence the decision, as he wants to go not just to a good football city, but a place for his family to live, according to the PFT report.

Hoyer has also been closely linked to the Jets, and Linta has been talking to them.

Last week, news leaked that the Texans had agreements to sign both Hoyer and Ryan Mallett, two of the biggest names on the (admittedly meager) quarterback market.

While this was not mentioned in the report, it’s possible that the Mallett signing turned Hoyer off the Texans, as he might not be excited about the idea of potentially being Mallett’s backup, especially when there are plenty of teams in need of a starter, including the Jets.

One team that would seem to definitely be out of the Hoyer sweepstakes are his former team, the Cleveland Browns. The team started out 7-4 with Hoyer under center, but a few weeks later Hoyer found himself on the bench, watching Johnny Manziel try (and fail) to complete short passes. The Browns have moved on, winning the bidding war for Josh McCown, indicating that Hoyer probably had no interest in returning.

Also, let’s not diminish the fact that there was a bidding war for Josh McCown. These are dark times for teams in need of a quarterback.

However long Hoyer takes, there will definitely be interest, particularly in this incredibly weak quarterback market. After all, there has to be something special about a quarterback who can take the Browns, of all teams, to a winning record.
