Fantasy Impact: Jeremy Maclin Signs With Chiefs
By Bruce Matson
Jeremy Maclin is going to sign with the Kansas City Chiefs. Last season, Maclin caught 85 receptions for 1,318 yards and 10 TDs for the first 1,000 yard season of his career. Maclin’s new contract with the Chiefs will be worth $11 million per season. Maclin gets to reunite with his former head coach Andy Reid, who coached Maclin during the first 4 seasons of his career.

Jeremy Maclin WR Kansas City Chiefs
Maclin might be the first wide receiver to score a touchdown for the Chiefs since 2013. The Chiefs didn’t have a touchdown by any of their wide outs last season, and that’s why they were prompted to sign Maclin this offseason. This signing might be good for the Chiefs, but it is horrendous for Maclin’s fantasy value. The Chiefs were ranked 29th in the league in passing last year, throwing for 3,182 yards. The Chiefs are one of the worst landing spots for wide receivers this offseason. Maclin goes from a fast paced, high powered offense in Philadelphia to a slow, conservative, ball control offense in Kansas City. Maclin goes from a low end wide receiver 1 to a wide receiver 3 that you will use to cover bye weeks. Maclin is going to go in the middle rounds in redraft leagues this fall. Maclin’s dynasty value deflated like a popped balloon. Personally, I would have sold him during the season or right at the end of the season while his value was at its highest because I highly doubt he has a season like this ever again. Maclin is a hold right now. I would take a late 1st round rookie pick if it was offered, but the odds of that happening is very slim.
Dwayne Bowe WR Kansas City Chiefs
Bowe is going to be cut to make room for Maclin. For right now we are going to be on the edge of our seats waiting for where he lands. His situation is going to be the major indicator of how much to value him in fantasy.
Jordan Matthews WR Philadelphia Eagles
Matthews’ value will skyrocket from the departure of Maclin. Last season he finished with 67 receptions 872 yards and 8 TDs as a rookie. Matthews should be a lot more involved with the offense next year, and he should improve upon his statistics. The Eagles resigned quarterback Mark Sanchez who favored Jordan Matthews last year, so the connection between the two should strengthen next season. Matthews is going to be a trendy draft pick in the middle rounds of redraft leagues next season. His value is through the roof in dynasty because he is currently projected to be the number 1 receiver in a higher powered offense going into the 2nd year of his career. Matthews has underrated athleticism with a 4.46 40-yard dash, 6.95 3-cone, and 35.5 vertical. Those are very good metrics for a wide receiver that stands at 6’3 212LBS. It’s too late to try and buy Matthews because it’s going to cost a lot to acquire him. If you are rebuilding, then you might want to try and sell him for multiple pieces. I would try to get at least two 1st round draft picks at a minimum.
Josh Huff WR Philadelphia Eagles
Huff is going to be drafted in the later rounds in redraft leagues, and he could be very productive next season. He is very comparable to Jeremy Maclin, and he might play in Maclin’s role next season. Huff’s price tag in dynasty is still palpable, and a 2nd round pick could be enough to get him on your roster. If he’s on your roster then I would hold him unless you get an offer that you can’t refuse.
