The New Orleans shocked the NFL world with the decision to trade Jimmy Graham to the Seattle Seahawks and that shock spread to Saints quarterback Drew Brees.

Free agency began on Tuesday afternoon but the new league year began with a trio of blockbuster trades, but none bigger than the Saints who traded away Pro Bowl tight end Jimmy Graham for a first round pick and Max Unger to the Seattle Seahawks.

The Saints had been up against the salary cap and made it known that players were available for trade in recent days, including Curtis Lofton who was released on Monday and Junior Galette who had his deal reworked, but no one anticipated Graham being moved out-of-town.

If you thought the Saints and Seahawks fans were shocked, wait until you hear from Drew Brees tossed 51 touchdowns and 4.572 yards to Graham when he was his No. 1 target in New Orleans.

Brees told Alex Flanagan that he was shocked just like the rest of us.

The Saints just signed Graham to a long-term deal last year so the Seahawks get a player who is locked up and caught 46 touchdowns over the last four years, including an NFL-high 16 in 2013.

Why the Saints would make such a deal is a question that will linger in the Crescent City for some time, but perhaps the Saints were worried about Graham’s shoulders after battling issues last season because they don’t save a lot of space on the salary cap.

Shocked, surprised, stunned and in disbelief are a few adjectives used to describe the majority of Saints fans today who lost one of the best players at any position in the NFL and a potential Hall of Fame tight end who won’t be 29 until late November.
